I wrote to The Director of Transport for the Generalitat de Catalunya. He sent me the attached letter, which I thought may be helpful for many people. I subsequently wrote back saying that although Tossa and Lloret may be happy with the extra transport, further north this is not the case. I asked if there was any chance of extending train services to Caldes de Malevella, Girona and Figueres, further into the evening, so that local residents can visit Barcelona at night and anyone coming in on a Barcelona flight won’t be stranded.  This has been brought to my attention by people who kindly responded to my request for letters.

I would not normally talk politics on the church site, but transport, or lack of it, is a problem for so many of us, not just for business people like myself but for all the private residents.

Here are your films for January and February. ‘ Anonymous’ still has to be confirmed but you will be informed if there is any change. For March, OCine are planning to screen The Iron Lady (the Margaret Thatcher biopic) and War Horse. The price of a ticket has gone up to 5€ for 2012. Compared to the 7.50€ you would pay in Barcelona to see an original version film, we think you will agree it is still good value for money.

Hello Penny I have been skimming the net looking for local contacts. I am trying to set up a book exchange in Palamos but I am still needing a quantity of second hand books to offer a decent base to start.  For anyone who has some spare books, just a couple or by the boxfull, that they would otherwise throw out I’d love to have them.
Other languages are also welcome but it is novels I want not TEFL textbooks.

This is a message from Hilary & Andrew Cannings (as featured in Catalonia Today), two of our members who selflessly work for PROGAT, a registered charity here on the Costa Brava .
They are preparing to move back to the UK and have four healthy, vet-checked & neutered kitties looking for homes. However, these are cats that have to live outside and would be very beneficial for all types of reasons.
Do you live in a place that needs some good mousers? Or just looking for cats that do not need too much attention? It may be that you travel, can’t have cats in the house and just need friendly cats who are good vermin hunters around who are clean, neutered and healthy who provide you with good company but not too many demands.
Cats are therapeutic, interesting and stimulating company (on their own terms, of course!) They would just need a neighbour to put down some food & water outside if you didn’t happen to be around because you are away for a long time. If it’s just a few days then, some feeders with dry food and water will suffice. They would also keep other stray cats (with possible diseases, looking to mate, aggressive to your other animals) away from your territory.
Because they are neutered they will not reproduce, spray or go cat-calling! These are animals in need of a good home and need to be given a chance. They are not Ferrell (wild) but have possibly not had the best start in life and need a home.
If you could find it in your heart to just take one of them that would be wonderful.

Jack – black and white neutered boy – very affectionate and loves to come indoors given half a chance but will always be an outside cat. Can be stroked with care.

Wolfy – tabby neutered boy – adorable but will always be an outside cat. Can be stroked with care.

Bojangles and Monty – black neutered boys – must go together as brothers and are very timid. Will need to be outside.

As many of you know my beloved mum lost her battle with Pancreatic Cancer at the young age of 62. She worked hard all her life and was a devoted wife and mother. Having decided to follow their dreams my parents retired early to a beautiful part of Spain and not long after she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.

My mum completed the annual Cancer Research charity walk as planned despite being half way through chemo and ignoring doctors advice. She fought bravely to the end and this will be my tribute to her memory.

Pancreatic cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer mortality and causes five percent of all cancer deaths each year. It has the lowest survival rate and is also the only cancer that has seen no improvement in this figure over the last 40 years. Hence why the Pancreatic Cancer Research fund really appreciate your donations.
